Kids play games, I see it all the time. As we grow older we stop playing those games. Sometimes we make new little inside games with our friends. Like with my friend, we made our own little game.
“Hey, I bet I can make you raise your hand.” My friend said
“Yeah right.” I said and waited
We continued to walk down the street then he started to swing on me. I started dodging his punches so I didn’t raise my hands and he’d win. When I thought he was going to stop he took off his shoes and threw one at my face so I moved and then he threw the other one and I knocked it away.
“Ha! Made you raise your hands.” He said picking up his shoes.
“Dammit I hate you.” I told him
Our game was a bet to make one another do something. We kind of took it to the extreme sometimes though. It’s just more fun that way to us.
“So that it?” I asked him
“For now I guess.”
I just stare at him then keep walking. I tried to think of something to do to him but nothing came to mind.
“Hey I bet I can make you cry.” He said
It was real quiet for a minute then I started laughing. I haven’t cried in over two years when my cousin died and I haven’t been able to ever since but if wants to try fine.
“This I have to see.” I told him
“When you least expect it you’ll cry. It’ll be funny and I’m going to laugh.” He told me
“Bring it on.” I said and reached my hand out.
Grabbing it he said. “Just wait.”
That’s when we turned away from each other and walked away.
We hung out still but never brought up the topic of me crying. We didn’t even do other I bet stuff. We just went to school and hung out at the park. This went on for a week but I was at school when my friend said “Ready?”
I was so confused but before I could say anything he walked away. I tried looking for him at lunch but I couldn’t find him so I went to eat. That’s when I got a call from my mom.
“Hello?” I said
She didn’t say anything. I just waited then I heard a scream in the back ground.
“Mom!?” I yelled into my phone standing up.
I waited two seconds then started running. I ran through the school and out the front doors. I kept the phone to my ear and waited but nothing so I kept running hard. After awhile I thought I’d run faster if I wasn’t on the phone so I put it in my pocket and ran my full soccer speed. Hoping over some fences for short cuts in till I ended in front of my house. That’s when I got a text from MIA friend. It read “Hey where are you?”
I replied “I’m going in my house.” Then put it back in my pocket.
Everything looked ok from the outside so I went inside. I didn’t see anything wrong when I walked in. then I noticed the TV on so I walked to the right to the living room and stopped in horror. I stood there looking at my dad sitting on the couch head back neck cut and stab wounds in his chest. I felt something drop in my stomach but I tried to not notice it then I remember my dad telling me to stay strong and if anything ever happened to him for me to watch over mom. I wanted to follow his words but I couldn’t. My vision was going blurry and my head hurt but I needed to find my mom and I wouldn’t have her see me like this. I turned on my hills and ran up stairs to my parent’s room. I walk in and look around. I see my mom on the bed so I walk over. I stood over her and saw the blood. There was so much blood on the bed. I saw the stab wounds in her too. I fell to the ground and just knelt there not knowing what to do. Then I felt my phone go off saying I have a text. That kind of snapped me back into reality which was a living hell. I got up and slowly started walking down stairs and then it really hit me that my parents are dead. I felt the tears I haven’t felt in over two years run down my face. I sat there thinking on what to. “Calling the cops would be the best idea.” I thought to myself so I got up and walked down stairs and pulled out my phone and saw the text.
“Hey where you at I’m already inside.”
I read it then read it again. I didn’t really understand his words. Then I heard footsteps so I looked up and saw him walking out of the living room with a smile on his face like it’s his birthday or something. I stood there thinking why he was here but as I watched him and looked at the smile I knew what this was about. I was standing here tears running down my face and he was here starting to laugh silently. Then I remember we take our games a little too seriously and go too far to prove a point.
“Hey told you I could make you cry!” he said and burst out laughing.
I stood there watching him not know if this was real or not. I listened to the laugh that would haunt me for the rest of my life and think to myself “I guess you’ll do anything to win.” Then just fall and listened to him laugh more and more before he stared to walk up to me with the blood stained knife in his hand. He knelt beside me and said “Hey I bet this will hurt.” He said and began to see if the knife would really hurt me.
Wow. I really, really love this story! It's invigorating and tantalizingly creepy... I love the ending, it literally gave me chills, like I was the kid and he was actually going to cut my arm off.... I love how it goes from innocent and childish to something beyond one's imagination of what might happen. LOOOOVVVEEE ITTTT!!!! Great Job! :)
